How to disable AVG search in the Firefox navigation bar

If you want disable the AVG Search in address-bar, please follow these steps:

1) Type in address-bar about:config and press Enter
2) Confirm warning dialog
3) Find keyword.URL (you can use Filter)
4) Change value of keyword.URL to:

The search box next to the navigation bar is still set to AVG.

I have found elsewhere since my post that the correct fix for this is:

Go to the about:config page as before.

Find the row

Change it to


Restart your browser, all sorted!

Yes, but that's not what this blogpost is about :-). It resets the search engine in the navigation bar, not the search engine box.
You could easily select the dropdown list too to select your favorite search engine.

This no longer works for me, when i change the string it works for the duration i run firefox but as soon as i close it and bring it back up, it defaults back to AVG and its getting on my last nurve >.>

Seconded... is there a way that AVG users can ensure Google (or whatever) remains the default search engine used in the navigation bar, rather than having to use the about:config 'fix' every time they open Firefox?

Sorry, it's still working fine here, but I believe you are encountering this problem. I'm afraid you will have to look further on the internet.

hello guys i found a new way to disable avg from firefox and set to goole search is " just type in adress bar and after the google home page open, just go to tools and select options in that select general option, in that option a home page adress bar is there below that there is a button "use current page" click that after click bottom OK button of of the page,,,,,
thats all now you are free of AVG,,,,,,,,
